The Legal Manager is overall responsible for protecting all tangible and intangible rights of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM). The role provides legal, compliance, and company secretarial advice to management, steers legal agreements to protect the company’s interests, represents the company in legal proceedings, and manages interactions with external and internal parties during business negotiations.
Supervisory and Lead Legal Onehub Asia
- Provide legal advice and support for onboarding new relevant markets to the Onehub project team in Malaysia.
- Review and advise on the SLA Blueprint, DPOB, and related matters.
- Advise on setting up and registering the new legal entity in Malaysia.
- Establish the legal department and introduce contract management and legal processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage legal and regulatory compliance matters as the principal legal advisor.
- Safeguard the company’s legal interests, ensure regulatory compliance, mitigate legal risks, and advise local management.
- Build relationships within the AAP region and headquarters, understand business needs, and provide proactive advice.
- Develop the legal department strategy for Onehub and align it with regional and corporate objectives.
- Analyze complex legal issues and communicate strategic, actionable solutions.
- Advise management and department heads on legal and regulatory matters and business risks.
- Provide advice on Malaysia’s legal framework, including hire purchase, stamp duties, financial, companies, contract, bankruptcy, personal data, and anti-trust laws.
- Monitor new laws and regulations, initiate necessary changes, and assess their impact on operations.
- Manage interactions with customers, regulators, and external lawyers.
- Report allegations of legal misconduct and instruct external legal partners where necessary.
- Lead communication with regulators and support implementation of regulatory change.
- Manage and mentor junior lawyers and oversee sensitive, high-value legal documentation.
- Oversee the company secretarial function and conduct related risk assessments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Professional firm and in-house experience are advantageous.
- Good working knowledge of corporate and commercial contracts.
- Excellent communication, presentation, contract drafting, negotiation, and advisory skills.
- Fluency in business English and Bahasa Malaysia; Mandarin is advantageous.
- Strong integrity, strategic thinking, analytical ability, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and reliably under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
