Privacy Policy

Job9 is built to need almost nothing from you. There are no accounts, no profiles and no CVs. This page sets out exactly what is stored, why, and how to get rid of it.

In short

• You can search every job on this site without giving us anything.
• The only personal data we ask for is an email address — if you want job alerts sent to it, or if you write to us through the contact form.
• We do not use analytics or tracking tools of any kind.
• We do not sell, rent or share your data for anyone else's marketing.
• Advertising only loads if you agree to it, and you can change your mind at any time from Cookie Settings in the footer.
• Every alert email contains a one-click unsubscribe that works without a password.

Browsing Job9

Searching and reading job pages requires no account and no sign-in. We do not build a profile of what you look at, and we do not link your searches to you.

Like any website, our server keeps request logs, which record your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser's user-agent string. Because searches are carried out through the address bar, the words you searched for form part of the requested address and therefore appear in those logs. The logs exist to keep the site running and to deal with abuse and faults; they are not used to profile anyone.

Submitting a form on the site may cause a short-lived session cookie to be set. It carries no information about you and exists so the form can be processed safely.

Job alerts

If you ask for job alerts, we store the following and nothing else:

• Your email address — so we can send the alerts.
• The fields of work you chose, or a note that you wanted all of them — so we only send relevant openings.
• Whether the address has been confirmed — pending, confirmed or unsubscribed.
• A random token — the unguessable string in your confirmation and unsubscribe links, which is how those links can work without a password.
• The date you subscribed.

We do not ask for your name, and we have no field to put one in. We do not record whether you opened an email or clicked anything in it.

Nothing is sent until you confirm the address by clicking the link in the first email. This is what stops somebody signing up an address that is not theirs. If you never confirm, the record is deleted automatically after 30 days.

We rely on your consent for these emails, and you can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any of them. Withdrawing takes effect immediately and needs no explanation.

Writing to us

The contact form asks for two things: your email address and your message. Neither is saved on this website. The form turns them into an email, sends it to us, and keeps no copy — there is no database of enquiries to leak, and no record here of who wrote or what they said.

What does persist is the email itself, sitting in our mailbox like any other correspondence. We keep it as long as we need to deal with what you asked about, and delete it once the matter is closed. Your address is used to reply and for nothing else — writing to us does not sign you up to job alerts or anything else.

Please do not send sensitive personal information — a CV, identity documents, health or financial details — through this form. We have no use for any of it, and email is not a secure way to send it.

Cookies, and the thing that is not a cookie

Job9 sets no cookies for advertising or measurement of its own. Your answer to the consent banner is saved in your browser's own local storage, under the name j9_consent, and is never sent to our server. That is a deliberate choice: it keeps your preference on your device rather than turning it into something we hold about you.

Because the preference lives in your browser, clearing your browsing data will clear it too, and the banner will ask again. It is also per-browser and per-device, so a choice made on your phone does not carry over to your laptop.

Advertising

Advertising pays for Job9. Advert code is only loaded once you have agreed to it — if you decline, or have not answered yet, no advertising script runs on the page and no advertising cookie is set.

If you do agree, adverts are served by Google AdSense. Google then acts on its own account and may set cookies and use identifiers to choose and measure adverts, under its own policies rather than ours. You can read what Google does with that data, and change your own advert settings, at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

We never pass your email address, or anything from a job alert subscription, to an advertising provider.

Who else sees your data

• Our hosting provider, which necessarily processes requests and stores the database on our behalf.
• Google, for advertising, and only after you have agreed to it.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing purposes. We may disclose information where the law requires it.

How long things are kept

• Unconfirmed subscriptions: deleted automatically 30 days after sign-up.
• Confirmed subscriptions: kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete the record.
• Unsubscribed records: the address is retained only so we do not email it again by accident; ask us and we will remove it entirely.
• Contact form messages: nothing is stored on the website at all. The resulting email is kept in our mailbox until the matter is dealt with, then deleted.

Your rights

You have the right to know what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive a copy in a portable form, and to withdraw consent you have given. Since the only data we hold is a subscription, most of that is immediate and self-service:

• Stop the emails: the unsubscribe link at the foot of any alert. No password, effective at once.
• Delete the record outright: the deletion link in the same email, which removes the subscription rather than just switching it off.
• Change which fields of work you follow: unsubscribe, then sign up again with the choices you want.

Applying for a job

Applications do not happen on Job9. When you follow an Apply link you leave this site for the employer's own, and from that point their privacy policy governs what happens to anything you send them. We do not see your application, are not told whether you made one, and receive nothing back.

Children

Job9 is intended for people old enough to work and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly store data about anyone under 16; if you believe we have, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If what we do with data changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top will tell you when. Where a change materially affects people who have subscribed to alerts, we will say so by email rather than quietly editing this page.
