Purpose

At adidas, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) ensures the stability and reliability of products built and run on large-scale, distributed systems, providing exceptional and uninterrupted user experiences for web and mobile platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and development of large-scale distributed systems.
  • Ensure system availability, scalability, performance, and efficiency.
  • Drive continuous integration and continuous deployment strategies balancing velocity, availability, quality, and security.
  • Automate processes to prevent recurring problems, reduce recovery time, and optimize engineering effort.
  • Improve time to detect issues through observability and advanced alerting.
  • Define and iterate on SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs throughout the service lifecycle.
  • Participate in on-call incident technical support.
  • Resolve incidents, identify technical root causes, and create remediation backlogs through post-mortems.
  • Help define standards and adopt new technologies.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge and experience with Site Reliability Engineering principles.
  • Four to five years of relevant DevOps or SRE experience.
  • College or university degree focused on IT, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and learn and implement new technologies.

Technical skills

Required:

  • Software development experience using object-oriented programming languages such as Java, Node.js, Go, or Python.
  • Experience adapting to different languages and frameworks.
  • Experience with large-scale, complex distributed systems.
  • Passion for SRE and DevOps.

Preferred:

  • REST APIs, API integration, and web services.
  • Public cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Distributed message queues including Kafka, AWS SQS, or RabbitMQ.
  • Containerized environments including Kubernetes, Docker, or OpenShift.
  • CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, CircleCI, ArgoCD, or GitHub.
  • Monitoring solutions such as Prometheus, Elasticsearch, or APM.
  • Service-level definition and operation across teams.
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Networking concepts including SSH, FTP, TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and CDN.
