Objective of job
Work on the development or localization of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in China in the field of interior lighting, including ambient light, reading lamps, and small white lamps.
Develop electrical/electronic hardware and optical/mechanical designs for interior lighting systems with suppliers in China, and verify results with the R&D headquarters in Germany.
- Define, develop, and refine the complete functional architecture of ambient lighting systems, including LIN, CAN/CAN FD, and basic interior lighting.
- Design and implement scalable, high-performance, and maintainable ambient lighting system architectures.
- Monitor, coordinate, and drive cross-functional teams toward project goals.
- Support change management, parts maturity, milestone delivery, issue diagnosis, and troubleshooting during production at the local BBAC plant.
Main tasks
- Develop China-specific parts from scratch or manage localization projects and suppliers from design freeze through PPAP part release.
- Evaluate supplier testing results and part maturity, ensuring readiness for project milestones.
- Support pilot runs, tryouts, and series production at the local Mercedes-Benz plant.
- Support system- and vehicle-level testing and release activities.
- Coordinate with R&D Germany, product planning, quality, logistics, and other cross-functional departments.
- Support the timely introduction of local and imported China-specific parts for current and future Mercedes-Benz carlines in China.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in automotive engineering or a related discipline, such as automotive, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience in an OEM or comparable supplier environment.
- Professional experience in interior lighting, including ambient-light optical and mechanical design, validation, component development and localization, CAD, EE diagnostics and troubleshooting, and vehicle EE testing.
- Chinese native speaker with fluent English; German is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of interior-lighting mechanical and optical systems and EE architecture.
- Familiarity with NX, Smaragd, Vector toolchain, CANoe, and CAN FD/Ethernet bus measurement.
- Strong project-management, communication, planning, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel within China and abroad.
