Tasks

Objectives: We are looking for an experienced Exhaust System R&D Engineer to join our global powertrain R&D team. The role takes R&D ownership to develop new exhaust systems for China-leading vehicle projects and ensure delivery of joint venture localization vehicle projects.

Perform technical and cost benchmarking, concept evaluation, and feasibility analysis for new projects.
Conduct architecture design, component layout, and 2D/3D engineering design according to engine and vehicle requirements.
Formulate DV/PV test specifications, follow up on part validation, engine tests, and vehicle test results, analyze test failures, and conduct root-cause analysis.
Support JV pre-production verification, process validation, and on-site technical troubleshooting to guarantee SOP on time.
Resolve in-production and field quality issues, deliver rapid interim countermeasures to prevent production shutdowns and customer complaints, and implement ongoing part design optimization.
Collaborate with R&D headquarters, purchasing, quality, production, and suppliers to manage component development schedules, cost, quality, and validation progress.
Accurately and systematically update and archive 2D/3D drawings, technical specifications, BOMs, and other relevant engineering documentation.

Qualifications

Master’s or bachelor’s degree in automotive or mechanical engineering, or an equivalent field.
5+ years of exhaust system R&D experience at an OEM or Tier 1 supplier.
Fluent written and spoken English; German is a plus.
Proficient knowledge of stainless steel, cast iron, thermal insulation materials, and manufacturing processes including stamping, welding, casting, and pipe forming.
Logical thinking, strong data analysis, and root-cause investigation capabilities.
Solid knowledge of 3D modeling and 2D drawing design software, such as Siemens NX.
Outstanding cross-department communication, supplier management, and technical presentation capabilities.
