The Ergonomics Specialist is accountable for the end-to-end definition, optimization, and governance of ergonomic concepts at vehicle level. The role ensures that vehicle architecture, systems, modules, and components are designed to deliver best-in-class human interaction, comfort, safety, usability, and accessibility, while balancing functional, design, weight, cost, and regulatory constraints.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Ergonomics Specialist Engineer acts as the authoritative ergonomic reference within the vehicle development organization, shaping concepts, resolving complex trade-offs, and driving ergonomic excellence throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle. The role serves as a central integrator, influencing cross-functional stakeholders and embedding ergonomic principles as a core element of vehicle design and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and lead the development, evaluation, and validation of ergonomic concepts for vehicle interiors and exteriors at complete vehicle level.
- Act as the escalation and decision point for complex ergonomic topics, resolving conflicts between ergonomic requirements, design intent, packaging constraints, and technical feasibility.
- Conduct and steer advanced ergonomic assessments using digital and physical mock-ups, simulations, and prototypes.
- Translate customer requirements, market insights, and user feedback into ergonomic targets and design requirements.
- Lead cross-functional alignment with platform organizations, design, marketing, R&D, production, and suppliers.
- Present ergonomic evaluations, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior stakeholders and decision boards.
- Define and monitor ergonomic clearance, reachability, visibility, and usability requirements.
- Support component and system releases from an ergonomic perspective.
- Develop and maintain ergonomic standards, methods, and best practices.
- Mentor colleagues and support organizational capability development through guidance, reviews, and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
- Deep professional expertise in automotive ergonomics and human factors engineering.
- University degree in engineering, ergonomics, human factors, industrial design, or a comparable technical discipline.
- More than 10 years of experience in automotive ergonomics, including vehicle packaging, dimensional concept development, and ergonomic validation.
- Advanced experience with digital and physical mock-ups, simulations, and prototype evaluations.
- Ability to analyze complex ergonomic challenges and derive vehicle-level solutions.
- Strong communication, stakeholder-management, presentation, and moderation skills.
- Experience with Siemens NX; Siemens Teamcenter / Engineering Client and RAMSIS are preferred.
- Excellent command of English; German is an advantage.
