Mercedes-Benz Group AG is one of the world's most successful automotive companies. Mercedes-Benz AG is one of the largest providers of premium and luxury cars and vans.

The PIONEERING NeXt department supports specialist areas throughout the Group in securing Mercedes-Benz's technology and innovation leadership. The Startup & Academic Partnerships team connects external global innovation and academic ecosystems with internal R&D departments. Through ACADEMICompass, the team scouts external innovation and academic partners, identifies new technologies and use cases, and enables early evaluation through collaborations and pilot projects.

The role offers the opportunity to work independently on strategically important research and development topics.

  • Exchange with internal specialist departments to define innovation needs
  • Derive suitable collaboration models
  • Scout and evaluate innovation and academic partners
  • Initiate joint projects
  • Prepare and present information to internal and external management
  • Support the design, development and operation of internal knowledge platforms and tools
  • Evaluate and pilot suitable AI tools for the area of application

The role can begin in September 2026. The final topic will be defined jointly with the university, the candidate and Mercedes-Benz.

Qualifications

  • Degree program in a technical field, industrial engineering, business informatics or a comparable subject
  • Confident use of MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
  • Fluent written and spoken English and German
  • Analytical and conceptual skills, communication and teamwork abilities, sense of responsibility and initiative
  • Enthusiasm and ability to learn new topics quickly
  • Initial practical experience and time spent abroad are advantageous
  • Commitment and teamwork
  • Analytical and strategic approach
