Objective of job

Mercedes-Benz is looking for an experienced SOA Software Architect to help bring service-oriented architecture features into its products and support the transition to Software-Defined Vehicles. The role will plan the SOA strategy, reduce hardware-software coupling, support rapid iteration of vehicle functions, and build an extensible and reusable software ecosystem.

Tasks

Architecture Design and Management

Lead the core architecture design of the vehicle on-board SOA platform, including service layering, interface specifications, communication protocols such as SOME/IP, DDS, and MQTT, and service governance frameworks.
Design cross-domain service-oriented solutions spanning Body, Powertrain, Intelligent Cockpit, and Autonomous Driving.
Establish and maintain SOA design principles, standards, and best practices.

Technology Implementation and Deployment

Lead development and integration of critical service components and guide service modeling, interface definition, and code generation.
Drive SOA adoption in mass-production programs, coordinating software-hardware integration, validation, and performance optimization.
Establish service lifecycle management covering version control, compatibility policies, and OTA upgrade support.
Lead a small outsourced engineering team of 3–5 members, including requirements, technical solutions, task allocation, delivery tracking, and quality management.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Advocacy

Collaborate with global R&D centers, product teams, and suppliers across multiple vehicle platforms.
Organize technical training sessions and workshops.
Engage with industry standards organizations such as AUTOSAR and SOAFEE.
Define performance and stability test cases and diagnose and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle.

SOA Strategy and Planning

Develop an enterprise-wide SOA implementation roadmap aligned with the company’s technology vision and business objectives.
Analyze automotive SOA trends and propose architectural solutions supporting the evolution of Software-Defined Vehicles.
Promote SOA adoption across business teams.

Risk Management and Quality Assurance

Identify technical risks involving real-time performance, security, and reliability and develop mitigation measures.
Lead architecture reviews to ensure compliance with ISO 26262 functional safety and ISO 21434 cybersecurity requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or above in electrical engineering, computer science, automation, mechatronics, vehicle engineering, electronics, software, or a related field.
Around 10 years of experience in automotive electronics or software architecture, including at least 3 years focused on SOA or distributed-system architecture.
Experience deploying SOA solutions in mass-production vehicle programs and familiarity with the V-model and ASPICE.
Experience with cross-domain integrated architectures, including infotainment and ADAS.
Knowledge of SOA concepts, AUTOSAR Adaptive and Classic Platforms, SOME/IP, DDS, MQTT, middleware, cloud-native and microservices architectures, and TSN/AVB.
Proficiency in C/C++, Java, or Python, with the ability to conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance.
Excellent English and Chinese communication skills, strong technical leadership capability, and familiarity with agile processes.
