Series Planning Engineer for BiW Equipment, Tooling, Press-Parts

Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. is seeking a Series Planning Engineer for BiW equipment, tooling, and press parts at its Tuscaloosa, Alabama site. The position supports new tool builds, engineering changes, equipment changes, tool improvements, production ramp-up, and supplier coordination.

Purpose of the Position

Under general supervision, support and/or lead new tool builds, engineering changes, BiW and assembly equipment changes, tool improvements, and feasibility reviews for tool, part, and equipment changes. Validate tool costs, equipment costs, engineering change costs, and piece prices. Work with Quality, Einfuehrung, Development Hub, suppliers, and other teams on current production, project ramp-up, and future projects.

Essential Functions

• Review tool and equipment quality, part and assembly quality, and tool and assembly process capability.
• Track new tools and communicate with departments to determine when tools are ready for series production.
• Participate in process review trials at Anlauffabrik in Germany, supplier locations, and during home-line integration at suppliers and MBUSI.
• Prepare and present information for tool and product reviews and required reports.
• Organize internal and external meetings to clarify problems and report findings.
• Exchange information with Quality, Einfuehrung, Development Hub, suppliers, Purchasing, and other departments to ensure quality, capability, and timing requirements are met.
• Provide feedback to Purchasing regarding supplier obligations and tooling payments.
• Confirm tool costs and piece prices and provide technical expertise to Purchasing.
• Provide manufacturing enhancement requirements to development engineers and document product improvements through closure.
• Support efficiency improvements within the Series Planning Department.
• Follow all applicable safety, security, and legal requirements, participate in safety programs, and report unsafe conditions and injuries.
• Remain available for domestic and international travel and occasional weekend or holiday work.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, another engineering discipline, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in an engineering function within manufacturing, with strong emphasis on press shop and/or body shop equipment and project management, is required. Experience with Class-A is required.

Applicants should be flexible, able to work in a team environment, and knowledgeable in Siemens NX, SMARAGD, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. German and English communication skills, Mercedes-Benz product development and ramp-up experience, problem-solving group leadership, and knowledge of ZEUS, Dialog, ACM, Engineering Client, or KT-Datenbank are preferred.
