Your role
As a Scala Engineer, you will contribute to the development and evolution of a large-scale SaaS platform supporting automation, billing, provisioning, and service operations within the Sage HCM ecosystem. Working in a collaborative Agile environment, you will design, develop, and optimize backend services while ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
In this role you will play a key role in:
- Developing and maintaining backend services using Scala 2.13 and Play Framework
- Designing and implementing scalable solutions for billing, provisioning, and customer service processes
- Optimizing database performance through efficient SQL queries, indexing strategies, and data modeling
- Building and supporting integrations with AWS services and distributed platform components
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot production issues, resolve defects, and deliver new functionalities
- Contributing to code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering best practices to ensure high-quality software delivery
Your profile
- Strong hands-on experience with Scala, including collections, Futures, immutability, and functional programming concepts
- Experience developing backend applications using Play Framework or similar distributed web frameworks
- Good understanding of SQL optimization, indexing, query profiling, and relational databases such as MySQL
- Experience working with AWS services, cloud-native applications, or distributed systems
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices, Git workflows, pull requests, and modern software delivery processes
- Nice to have: experience with Redis, Doobie, Squeryl, Grafana/Kibana, or large-scale distributed systems built with Play/Pekko architectures
