About the Client

Our client is expanding its data platform team as part of ongoing data modernization initiatives and is looking to add hands-on Data Engineers to support the evolution of its Microsoft-based analytics and data platform.

Role Overview

The Senior Analytics Engineer designs the semantic layer connecting governed data products to Power BI, self-service analytics, and AI or agentic consumption. The role defines how business concepts, relationships, measures, metrics, metadata, and ontologies are represented so humans, reports, and AI agents interpret enterprise data consistently.

Core Technical Strengths

• Semantic model architecture: Design production-grade Power BI and Fabric semantic models with defined fact and dimension grain, star schemas, relationships, reusable measures, calculation logic, hierarchies, business-friendly metadata, and bounded analytical domains.
• Direct Lake and Microsoft Fabric: Apply deep knowledge of Direct Lake semantic models over governed OneLake data products, including Delta-table dependencies, source-state considerations, performance, security, deployment, and production validation.
• Enterprise metrics and semantic governance: Establish centralized, reusable business metrics with clear definitions, ownership, grain, authoritative implementations, dependencies, and lifecycle management.
• Data Agents and AI-ready analytics: Design semantic models and governed data products for Fabric Data Agents and broader agentic solutions.
• OneLake security and identity-aware analytics: Preserve appropriate authorization from governed OneLake data products through semantic consumption, including OneLake data access roles and Power BI security such as RLS.
• Power BI engineering and performance: Use advanced DAX and data-modeling skills to diagnose model and query performance with Power BI Performance Analyzer, DAX Query View, DAX Studio, model metadata, relationship analysis, and representative workload testing.
• Reusable analytics architecture: Create reference architectures, development standards, templates, validation patterns, and reusable components for multiple domains.
• Understand Fabric REST APIs and metadata for Audit and Monitoring observability solutions.
• Understand data modeling and data engineering concepts, including Medallion architecture and data mesh concepts.
• Python experience is preferred but not required.

Working Style

• Start with the semantic contract, not the visualization, by establishing business concepts, grain, entities, relationships, measures, ownership, security, and consumption requirements.
• Communicate effectively with business users and DPMs about considerations, approaches, limitations, and trade-offs.
• Work independently and manage and prioritize sprint objectives and workloads.
