Job Description
As part of our growing Data & AI practice, we are seeking a Senior Ontology Engineer to lead the development of enterprise semantic models, ontologies, and knowledge graph solutions that enable data interoperability and business understanding at scale.
Your Role
You will work closely with business stakeholders, data architects, and engineering teams to design and govern enterprise ontologies that support digital transformation initiatives. You will help establish semantic standards, drive knowledge graph adoption, and create reusable semantic assets across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Define, develop, and maintain enterprise ontologies and semantic models.
- Design and govern controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, and business glossaries.
- Establish semantic modeling standards, best practices, and governance frameworks.
- Design reusable semantic models supporting Knowledge Graph and Semantic Data Product initiatives.
- Curate, validate, and manage ontology assets throughout their lifecycle.
- Ensure semantic interoperability across enterprise systems, applications, and data products.
- Collaborate with business SMEs, data architects, and technical teams to standardize terminology and business definitions.
- Facilitate workshops and working sessions to achieve consensus on business concepts and metadata standards.
- Support the implementation and evolution of enterprise knowledge management and semantic technologies.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in ontology engineering, semantic modeling, or knowledge engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience with OWL, RDF, SKOS, SHACL, and Semantic Web technologies.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and governing enterprise ontologies.
- Practical experience delivering knowledge graph solutions and semantic data models at enterprise scale.
- Expertise in creating and maintaining controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, and business glossaries.
- Strong understanding of semantic interoperability, metadata management, and ontology governance and lifecycle management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to facilitate business workshops and drive consensus among diverse stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience within manufacturing, life sciences, or pharmaceutical domains.
- Hands-on experience with Neo4j, Protégé, or GraphDB.
- Exposure to enterprise data governance initiatives and modern Data & AI platforms.
- Familiarity with knowledge graph architecture and semantic technologies within large-scale organizations.
