Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization
The purpose of this role is to support the Senior Director, Legal and Compliance, South East Asia and Pacific. The role focuses on legal and compliance matters across the South East Asia cluster, with day-to-day concentration on Indonesia and Malaysia.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate and review contracts and correspondence.
- Provide legal support and advice on commercial, employment, competition, brand, leasing, consumer complaints, ecommerce, governmental inquiries, customs and importation matters.
- Counsel and structure transactions, assess legal risks and minimize disputes.
- Represent the company at hearings, conciliations and employment disputes.
- Lead or participate in legal projects and cross-functional or cross-border initiatives.
- Manage external counsel and drive operational efficiencies within the legal and compliance team.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments in South East Asia and advise management.
- Develop and conduct educational programs and materials on relevant legal areas.
Compliance and Privacy
- Handle local privacy and competition law matters by identifying risks, training employees and managing internal protocols.
- Report identified legal risks to global stakeholders.
- Design and deliver legal and compliance training.
- Support corporate compliance programs concerning unfair competition, anti-bribery and corruption.
- Collaborate with global privacy and information security teams on personal data protection.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong background in contract law, drafting and negotiation.
- Experience in privacy, employment and consumer protection law preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Strong commercial sense and ability to provide pragmatic risk-based solutions.
- Ability to work independently and manage a substantial and diverse workload.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of a recognized law school and admitted to the legal profession in Indonesia.
- At least 10 years of experience in a multinational corporation legal department or internationally practicing law firm.
- Solid experience in corporate work, commercial contracts, privacy, employment, competition and consumer law.
- Knowledge of Indonesia’s legal system, government bodies, judicial system and litigation in arbitration and courts.
- Independent, self-motivated and responsive, with a willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.
