Purpose and overall relevance
Responsible for managing accurate payroll execution, payroll process consistency and payroll data accuracy, with a focus on payroll accounting and taxes for North America. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations, laws and standards, as well as customer satisfaction for payroll delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of payroll taxes, payments and other statutory information requests in multiple jurisdictions in the USA and Canada.
- Identify solutions for routine payroll-related issues and organize the team to meet rigid payroll deadlines.
- Lead, direct, evaluate and develop a team of payroll specialists.
- Develop, implement and recommend processes and procedures to create efficiency and standardization.
- Maintain complete and accurate policy and procedure documentation.
- Participate in HR projects and lead projects related to payroll, payroll processes and payroll systems, continuously driving improvement.
- Collaborate with corporate tax on payroll tax matters and with accounting on month-end processes.
- Deliver biweekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end activities, including balancing, reporting and administering W2, W2-C, T4s and RTL1s.
- Ensure payroll, accounting and auxiliary system requirements are met regarding tax setup, tax deposits, tax filing and year-end reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations and wage and hour laws.
- Communicate changes to payroll policies, procedures and regulations to employees and stakeholders.
- Act as the subject matter expert for relevant regulations, laws and employment standards.
- Ensure appropriate handling of inbound and outbound international employees, including shadow payroll when required.
- Process reports for internal management and external audit requests.
- Respond to complex, escalated enquiries and recommend solutions to Rewards Experts, HR Partners, Finance and employees.
- Manage relationships with external suppliers and consultants, including vendors, contracts and service standards.

Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 8+ years of experience in payroll administration.
- 2+ years of managerial experience.
- Experience with business computing solutions, ideally SAP-HR.
- Experience working in an international company.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience leading and managing teams.
- Willingness to travel if required.
