Objective of job
As program manager for full-size and large cars in China, the team leads overall project management, including strategic decision-making and alignment within China and with headquarters for product-related decisions.
The position is responsible for steering Mercedes-Benz large and full-size passenger car platforms in China by owning defined work packages across project management, business case tracking, cross-functional coordination, and China-specific product initiatives. The role focuses on execution excellence, analytical depth, and reliable decision preparation across strategy, content, cost, timeline, localization, and quality, with a clear focus on the project's economic success.
Main tasks
- Plan timing for all large-car projects and lead project risk management evaluations.
- Manage cross-functional vehicle projects across Research & Development, Sales, Finance, Purchasing, Quality, and Production Planning.
- Track decisions and report on implementation progress.
- Prepare management presentations for decision-making.
- Control China vehicle projects based on agreed quality gates.
- Ensure pre-alignment of China product topics with Research & Development, Operations, and Sales & Marketing.
- Participate in and represent Program Management in other committees.
Qualifications
Education: Graduated or certified engineer in economics, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, technically oriented business administration, or a similar field. Fluent English is required; German is a plus.
Experience: 3–5 years of experience in project management functions in an international automotive environment. Equivalent project-related experience in other departments will also be considered. Experience with cost-saving programs, business case calculations, MDS, quality gates, and timeline management is required.
Essential skills: Strong project management knowledge, committee moderation, excellent communication and presentation skills, fluent English and Chinese, an open-minded and collaborative mindset, and the ability to explain technical topics to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred skills: Ability to understand complex topics and recognize the impact of strategic changes on the overall project, along with fast and structured Microsoft PowerPoint creation.
