Job Overview

The Enterprise Technology Architect owns the technology foundation of CodeCraft, the NAFTA shared engineering platform—the runtime, cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, and security controls that application teams across the region build on.

The role is accountable for the technical currency, reliability, and cost efficiency of the platform across a roughly 40-repository ecosystem, including runtime and dependency version baselines, container and Kubernetes patterns, vulnerability and license remediation, and automation that reduces manual toil.

CodeCraft serves multiple NAFTA entities, including Mercedes-Benz USA and Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. The architect designs shared platform capabilities that accommodate differing regulatory, data-residency, cloud-account, and isolation requirements. This is a hands-on architecture role involving prototyping, Terraform and platform-code reviews, engineering partnership, designs, and standards.

Responsibilities

Own the CodeCraft technology reference stack, including JVM and Node runtimes, containers, Kubernetes, EKS, ingress, service mesh, caching, Kafka, and data-access patterns.
Architect the cloud-native runtime and delivery model using Helm, GitOps, ArgoCD, environment topology, and multi-account or multi-entity segregation.
Own infrastructure-as-code architecture, including Terraform or Terragrunt modules, state and environment layout, drift detection, and reusable infrastructure building blocks.
Own shared engineering assets such as common libraries, Gradle plugins, dependency baselines, the API gateway, configuration server, and CodeCraft CLI tooling.
Define developer golden paths, project templates, scaffolding, and platform SDKs.
Architect observability using metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and SLOs while driving reliability, capacity, and cloud-cost engineering.
Embed security through container hardening and signing, secrets management, workload identity, least-privilege IAM, and software supply-chain controls.
Own vulnerability and license remediation across the ecosystem and define technology standards for runtimes, base images, dependencies, Kubernetes, and infrastructure.
Lead technical design reviews, contribute to architecture governance, record ADRs, and ensure compliance with TISAX, ISO 27001, and MBFS requirements.
Evaluate emerging technologies and apply Generative AI and Agentic AI to dependency upgrades, remediation, testing, documentation, infrastructure diagnostics, and code review.
Design agent enablement with scoped identities, MCP integrations, repository conventions, sandboxed execution, action observability, human approval gates, auditability, and rollback paths.
Partner with solution architecture, security, IAM, and engineering teams across NAFTA entities and contribute to Agile, SAFe, and Scrum delivery.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field required.
10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating enterprise technology solutions, including 3+ years in an enterprise technology architecture, platform architecture, enterprise solution architecture, or software architecture role.
Deep hands-on expertise in cloud-native and hybrid-cloud architecture, containers, Kubernetes, microservices, APIs, event-driven patterns, and networking.
Strong experience with infrastructure as code and GitOps delivery in multi-account cloud environments.
Experience maintaining shared platform assets, DevSecOps controls, observability, reliability engineering, and cloud-cost optimization.
Working knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, ArchiMate, or LeanIX.
Experience applying AI/ML, Generative AI, and Agentic AI to engineering and operations, along with knowledge of responsible AI and agentic AI risks.
Experience leading technical initiatives, developing proofs of concept, evaluating emerging technologies, and driving adoption.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field.
AWS, Azure, or GCP Professional Architect; CKA/CKAD; HashiCorp Terraform Associate; TOGAF; or equivalent certifications.
Hands-on experience with Java 21, Spring Boot, Gradle, TypeScript, Next.js, Python, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and Redis.
Experience with Checkmarx, Black Duck, SonarQube, Artifactory, Datadog, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
Experience with agentic coding platforms, MCP, and orchestration frameworks.
Experience delivering shared platforms across legal entities, business units, or regions with differing compliance regimes.
