We are looking for a PostgreSQL database administrator with strong data modeling skills to join our team. The role includes managing a Postgres application data store across environments, working closely with the development team to define data models for new data feeds, and owning the core data structures used within the application.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the application PostgreSQL database cluster across multiple cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Monitor and tune PostgreSQL databases to optimise performance.
  • Handle migration of data structures across database instances, including offline environments.
  • Own data models and manage the lifecycle of data stored in the Postgres database.
  • Work with data pipeline engineers and data scientists to ingest a wide range of data sources.
  • Manage security controls across environments, including roles, permissions, and row-level security controls.
  • Work with the infrastructure team to configure installations and manage database patching.

Skills and experience

  • PostgreSQL DBA experience, including core development, maintenance, performance optimisation, sharding, and partitioning.
  • Experience with clustering and extensions such as pgvector, PostGIS, and AGE is useful.
  • Additional Oracle or MSSQL skills are required, including experience with the latest version of Oracle.
  • Strong PostgreSQL performance optimisation skills, including index tuning, execution plan analysis, query optimisation, and data partitioning.
  • Experience defining backup strategies, managing database clusters, and handling failover strategies.
  • Experience designing, creating, and managing schemas, tables, and views.
  • Understanding of best practices for storing JSON objects within PostgreSQL.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with developers on data model requirements.

Eligibility and location

SC eligibility is required as a minimum, with DV as a target. Candidates must have lived and worked in the UK continuously for the past 5–7 years.

This is a hybrid role with a minimum of two days per week in the office. Locations include Manchester, Andover, and London.
