We are looking for a PostgreSQL Database Administrator with strong data modeling skills to join our team. The role includes managing a PostgreSQL application data store across environments, working closely with the development team to define data models for new data feeds, and taking responsibility for database maintenance and performance.
Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the application PostgreSQL database cluster across multiple cloud and on-premises environments.
- Monitor and tune PostgreSQL to optimize database performance.
- Handle migration of data structures across database instances, including offline environments.
- Own data models and manage the lifecycle of data within the PostgreSQL database.
- Work with data pipeline engineers and data scientists to ingest a wide range of data sources.
- Manage security controls across environments, including roles, permissions, and row-level security controls.
- Work with the infrastructure team to configure installations and manage database patching across all environments.
Required skills
- PostgreSQL database administration, core development, maintenance, and performance optimization, including sharding and partitioning.
- Experience with clustering and extensions such as pgvector, PostGIS, and AGE is useful.
- Additional skills in Oracle or MSSQL are required, including experience with the latest version of Oracle.
- Strong PostgreSQL performance optimization skills, including index tuning, execution plan analysis, query optimization, and data partitioning.
- Ability to define backup and recovery strategies based on environment constraints.
- Experience managing database clusters and failover strategies.
- Experience designing, creating, and managing schemas, tables, and views.
- Understanding of best practices for storing JSON objects in PostgreSQL.
- Clear communication and the ability to collaborate with developers on data model requirements.
Eligibility and location
Applicants must be eligible for SC clearance as a minimum, with DV clearance as a target, and must have lived and worked continuously in the UK for the past 5–7 years.
This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office. Locations include Manchester, Andover, and London, UK.
