Job Overview
The Maintenance Multi-Craft Technician maintains production equipment to ensure the daily production requirements at Mercedes-Benz Vans are obtained.
Responsibilities
- Perform repair work, including necessary disassembly and reassembly of production equipment.
- Perform equipment preventive maintenance tasks to ensure manufacturer-recommended specifications are maintained.
- Maintain repair and maintenance records.
- Size circuit conductors and circuit-protection devices, run conduit when needed, install electrical equipment, and wire or unwire equipment.
- Use a VOM and other test-related equipment to identify electrical problems.
- Identify and analyze intermittent or inconsistent electrical and mechanical failures on production equipment, including PLCs, 24V control circuits, 480V three-phase systems, 4-20 mA circuits, VFDs, PC controllers, and fieldbus and control technology.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical components such as pumps, motors, and bearings.
- Perform modernizations, extensions, and modifications according to specifications or sketches for electrical drawings.
- Adjust PLC programming and use PLCs to troubleshoot issues when necessary.
- Construct or design equipment using PLCs, bus systems, network technology, mechanical components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and cooling and lubrication systems.
- Perform daily equipment checks and monitor production equipment performance.
- Optimize resources and installations, including processes, process parameters, hardware, software, and cycle times.
- Interact with and support associates within assigned production areas.
- Procure operative materials, equipment, and service providers.
- Travel and overtime may be required.
- Perform other duties as required to support business needs.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of industrial AC/DC electricity from 24V to 480V, mechanical systems, hydraulics, and/or pneumatics is required.
- Experience changing bearings and motors is preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email, are required.
- PLC and bus-system education or experience is strongly preferred.
- Robotics experience, especially Kuka or Dürr, is strongly preferred.
- Oven and paint-booth supply-air maintenance experience, pumping-system maintenance experience, and conveyor-system maintenance experience are preferred.
- Strong listening, speaking, and writing skills are required.
- Siemens S7 PLC logic knowledge is preferred.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Required: four or more years of relevant experience; or a relevant certificate plus three years of relevant experience; or a relevant associate degree plus one year of relevant experience.
- Preferred: five or more years of relevant experience; or a relevant certificate plus four years of relevant experience; or a relevant associate degree plus two years of relevant experience.
- Indirectly relevant experience includes working with automation equipment, mechanical repairs, or working toward a related degree or certification.
