We have an immediate requirement for a Mechanical Technician to join our Planned Maintenance Team in Port Moresby, reporting to the Planned Maintenance Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on plant machinery including conveyors, fillers, cappers, labelers, pumps, motors, and gearboxes.
  • Fault Diagnostics: Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic breakdowns rapidly to minimize production downtime on high-speed lines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Conduct root-cause analysis on recurring mechanical failures and support line changeovers, settings, and equipment commissioning.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety and hygiene protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP/HACCP).
  • Documentation: Maintain equipment histories, service schedules, work logs, and critical spare parts inventory levels.
  • Record Keeping: Log all maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment conditions in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: A recognized mechanical trade qualification, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience working with automated, rotating, or high-speed manufacturing equipment—ideally within the food and beverage sector.
  • Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, proficiency in reading blueprints and schematics, and familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Soft Skills: Good problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and communication skills to work alongside engineers and production staff.
  • Physical Requirements: Stamina for manual labor, standing for long periods, and lifting heavy equipment.
