Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization

The Manager Health & Safety will manage and enforce company safety policies and ensure compliance with applicable global, regional and local regulations. As the H&S lead for India, this role supports the Market Lead/General Manager within the Emerging Markets Regional and Global HSEE governance framework and serves as the primary subject matter expert for health and safety matters in India.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement written health and safety programs and ensure safe working conditions and compliance with company policies, laws and regulations.
  • Implement health and safety risk strategies covering safety standards, environmental matters, ergonomics, people risk, governance, crisis management, event risk, incident investigation, risk assessment and COVID measures.
  • Conduct workplace, employee behaviour and standard operating procedure risk assessments.
  • Determine appropriate H&S controls and coordinate harmonised implementation with stakeholders and internal business units.
  • Represent global H&S programs and initiatives with health and safety agencies.
  • Maintain records and documentation in compliance with local and ISO standards.
  • Analyse safety metrics and incident trends to identify areas of highest risk.
  • Develop incident investigation and near-miss processes, train staff, support root cause analysis and review corrective actions.
  • Record and close incidents in Quentic/Aspen.
  • Maintain risk registers and coordinate the identification, assessment, prioritisation and mitigation of market H&S risks.
  • Develop and monitor annual H&S priorities and improvement plans.
  • Provide HSEE updates to market leadership on compliance performance, risks, incidents, audits, regulatory matters and mitigation actions.
  • Escalate significant incidents, material risks, regulatory concerns, audit findings and compliance gaps appropriately.
  • Establish HSEE communication and reporting mechanisms across the market.
  • Support health and safety training, including new-hire training, annual training and toolbox talks.
  • Build stakeholder relationships and embed a positive health and safety culture.
  • Ensure vendors, contractors and third-party employees comply with company H&S standards.
  • Lead emergency response planning and evacuation drills.
  • Lead quarterly H&S committee meetings.
  • Perform other duties and tasks supporting organisational health and safety.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong HSEE knowledge and experience in a complex organisation.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, risk management and HSEE management systems.
  • Experience identifying, assessing and mitigating operational and compliance risks.
  • Strong incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action capabilities.
  • Stakeholder management, influencing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to advise senior leaders and build a positive safety culture.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret HSEE performance data.
  • Experience working within regional and global frameworks while adapting solutions locally.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, very good English and willingness to travel.

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Management or a related discipline, or NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in HSEE, Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
  • Experience implementing H&S management systems and regulatory compliance programmes.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and corrective action management.
  • Experience managing audits, inspections and compliance reporting.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • ISO management systems experience preferred, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 50001.

Reporting Structure and Location

Reporting to the Sr. Manager HSSE EM, with indirect reporting to the Sr. Director HR India. Base location: Gurgaon.
