Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. is hiring a Maintenance Engineer for its Tuscaloosa, Alabama, operations. The position supports maintenance systems, equipment efficiency, reliability improvements, and maintenance engineering activities in a high-voltage battery system assembly environment.

Purpose of the Position
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for systems, standards, policies, and procedures related to equipment efficiency at MBUSI and the functions of the maintenance group.
Essential Functions
- Provide primary or lead technical support to the maintenance group.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee maintenance systems and core maintenance activities.
- Manage outsourcing activities and select key service contractors and suppliers.
- Develop and deliver maintenance training related to equipment-based technologies.
- Define equipment life cycles and develop plans for rebuilds, upgrades, and replacements.
- Analyze shop efficiency and equipment downtime and develop improvement plans and countermeasures.
- Lead investigations of extended downtime, breakdowns, and maintenance system failures.
- Develop predictive and long-term preventative maintenance plans and audit the preventative maintenance system.
- Plan for product changes and their impact on processes, equipment, and tooling.
- Develop and improve equipment buy-off and scope-of-work standards.
- Manage maintenance engineering expense and capital budgets.
- Manage project planning, design reviews, implementation, and execution of expense and capital projects.
- Coordinate weekend work, shutdown activities, contractors, and maintenance support.
- Lead major rebuild, repair, and refurbishment projects.
- Establish spare-parts inventories, equipment procedures, single-point lessons, project justifications, scopes of work, timelines, and formal reports.
- Lead asset criticality scoring, FMEA risk analysis, and preventative-maintenance optimization activities, coordinating updates in SAP.
- Review job plans, work instructions, dashboards, and asset-performance data.
- Perform daily tasks in a high-voltage battery system assembly environment.
- Follow safety rules, procedures, regulations, standards, and laws; report unsafe conditions and injuries.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Co-op, internship, and/or up to two years of professional experience in industrial equipment, equipment reliability improvement, project planning, and implementation.
Necessary skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, PLC controls including Siemens and Rockwell, associated hardware, fieldbus network systems, robotic systems, and robotic applications. Ability to work on or around complex robotic cells and conveyors.
Preferred skills: Working knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley, Profinet, and CMS systems, plus familiarity with vision systems, fill equipment, and printers.
