About Us

Overview and Responsibilities

The primary goal of this internship is to assist the DFW Learning & Performance Center Welding Certification program by relieving the Welding Instructor, a Certified Welding Inspector, of repetitive tasks and enabling more one-on-one training with Mercedes-Benz Certified Structural Aluminum Welders.

The intern will be responsible for three major activities:

  • Under the supervision of the Certified Welding Inspector, learn to conduct destructive weld testing using approved testing equipment and document results.
  • Develop, document and implement processes for setting up and conducting Structural and Thin Panel Welding Work Trials, including periodic maintenance of 18 Fronius welders, monitoring and documenting key inventory levels, and communicating critical information to teammates.
  • Assist with proctoring Work Trials and Thin Panel certification examinations.

Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of the Mercedes-Benz Welding and Testing lab.
  • Help develop welding tooling management and organization.
  • Organize and execute products and weld tests before and during Structural Welding Work Trials.
  • Conduct destructive weld tests for Structural Welding Work Trial participants and document results on the Mercedes-Benz intranet.
  • Program, troubleshoot and test welding systems.
  • Support Structural Welding Work Trial and Thin Panel Welding Certification participants.
  • Support the initiation of modifications and further development of the Mercedes-Benz welding program.
  • Effectively and positively deal with challenges and promote teamwork to achieve established goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Undergraduate student; rising junior or senior.
  • Available from June 2026 through June 2027.
  • Available for a hybrid, in-person schedule three days weekly, up to 28 hours maximum.
  • Available during core working hours from 10 AM to 3 PM Eastern.

Preferred skillset

  • Working toward a welding degree and/or hands-on welding manufacturing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of current and leading-edge technologies.
  • Ability to learn new products and technologies quickly.
  • Strong knowledge of material processing, tooling and part fabrication.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literacy.
