Tasks
Mercedes-Benz is building exceptional vehicles and careers at its Alabama manufacturing facilities. Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. manufactures luxury SUV models, including electric vehicles, and produces high-performance lithium-ion batteries at its two campuses.
The internship supports quality improvement, manufacturing excellence, and continuous improvement activities across Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams.
Essential Functions
- Analyze production quality data and customer feedback trends.
- Support root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Assist with implementation and verification of corrective actions.
- Participate in cross-functional quality improvement projects.
- Support quality audits and production quality gate activities.
- Develop reports and dashboards to track quality performance metrics.
- Assist with escalation and presentation of quality concerns within quality review forums.
- Support digitization and automation of quality inspection processes.
- Participate in special projects related to quality systems, continuous improvement, and manufacturing excellence.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams to improve First-Time Capability and reduce defect escapes.
Other Regular Daily Tasks
- Support problem resolutions.
- Support escalation of quality topics to quality forums.
- Support implementation of quality checks into offline quality inspections.
- Support complex problem solving for legacy topics.
Qualifications
Students must meet the education, experience, and skills requirements.
Education: Student in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills:
- Understanding of engineering problem solving.
- Basic Microsoft computer knowledge.
- Understanding of vehicle systems and terminology.
- Focus on the standard automotive production system.
- Data analysis and reporting skills.
- Technical writing and presentation skills.
- Understanding of automotive manufacturing processes.
- Power BI preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Root cause analysis.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in university or in a gap year between a Bachelor's and Master's degree.
- Studies outside the United States; applications from students currently studying in the United States are not accepted.
- A minimum of three semesters of study in a relevant field.
- Available for a minimum of six months.
Internship Details
- Preferred start date: March 2027.
- Paid internship with an hourly rate of $18.
- Coverage of visa costs.
- $700 housing bonus.
