Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization

Act as a strategic business partner and coach to Japan corporate functions in all people-relevant management, ensuring the best HR strategies and value-adding service are provided to attract, develop, motivate and retain talent in the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with functional leaders as a trusted consultant to shape organizational strategy, focusing on headcount planning, optimal team structures and a high-performance culture.
  • Translate business priorities into a comprehensive People Strategy and actionable initiatives, ensuring implementation in Japan alongside global HR programs.
  • Maintain communication and partnership with the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to organizational and people decisions.
  • Drive organizational design, change and transformation programs around strategic objectives.
  • Use HR data and analytics to provide insights, monitor organizational health and inform business decisions.
  • Lead performance and talent management processes, building talent pipelines and succession plans for critical positions.
  • Drive annual compensation review and promotion cycles and provide guidance on reward strategies.
  • Support Personnel & Management Development tools and concepts.
  • Manage Employee Relations and champion engagement through onboarding, town halls and listening sessions.
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing HRBP team for Corporate.

Key Relationships

Leadership Team and employees of the support organization, Japan HR Leadership Team, HR Talent and Talent Acquisition, HR Rewards, HR Service, Finance, Legal Counsel and Attorneys, local authorities, Workplaces, Corporate Communications and employee groups.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of individual and collective labor law, HR metrics, change delivery, organizational design, employee relations and people trends.
  • Understanding of workforce planning, digital landscapes, customer focus, HR strategy, business value chains and key processes.
  • Consulting, coaching, facilitation, solution-brokering and project delivery skills.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, written and verbal communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, agile working environment and support change.

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Human Resource Management or a related field.
  • At least 15 years of HR management experience, preferably supporting commercial business.
  • Good understanding of the retail or consumer goods industry and market landscape.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Japanese.
