Job Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to build production aids, including carts, racks, tool holders, and basic tools, to assist manufacturing operations in the Body, Paint, and Assembly Shops. The technician will support internal customers by designing and building equipment needed to meet production goals, identifying process improvements, and applying Mercedes-Benz Production System (MPS) principles.
Responsibilities
- Design and build manufacturing aids and equipment, including carts, racks, jigs, fixtures, and tool holders.
- Work with internal customers, engineers, and MPS experts to design equipment for project requests.
- Use data to evaluate situations objectively and build solutions that deliver measurable improvements.
- Operate powered tools, equipment, and computerized machines to produce project components.
- Identify and reduce or eliminate manufacturing process waste.
- Support team members in self-implementing projects.
- Act as an ambassador for MPS and continuous improvement in the plant.
- Work on time-sensitive projects that support customer goals.
- Support 5S, continuous improvement process, and standardization initiatives.
- Maintain flexibility to support changes in customer requests and project planning.
- Periodically adjust the work schedule to install projects during non-production times, including after hours and weekends.
- Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two or more years of relevant manufacturing experience, or a relevant certificate and one or more years of relevant experience.
- Preferred: three or more years of relevant experience, or a relevant certificate and two or more years of relevant experience.
- Able to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Self-motivated and self-directed.
- Experience with hand tools is required.
- Experience using powered tools and equipment.
- Experience working with aluminum, plastics, steel, wood, and other materials.
- Experience with the Mercedes-Benz Production System or an equivalent Lean system.
- Conventional machining and/or welding experience preferred.
- Automotive manufacturing experience preferred.
- Production process orientation and understanding.
- Familiarity with the metric system.
