At Mercedes-Benz Vans, interdisciplinary teams are developing the mobility of tomorrow. The Body Shop Production Engineer will monitor factory performance, determine manpower needs, and strengthen and develop the organization's production and planning structure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop best practices to improve production capacity, quality, and reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement processes and create a Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Investigate problems, analyze root causes, and derive resolutions using the 8D Problem Solving Process.
  • Support operational strategies to achieve production and financial objectives.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods and establishing standards.
  • Support the design, documentation, and implementation of medium-scale manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate production activities and recommend improvements.
  • Plan workplaces with consideration for ergonomics.
  • Assist management with manpower distribution to achieve efficiency goals.
  • Lead the Cell Tech team regarding structure, responsibilities, KPIs, and training.
  • Drive shop KPIs and create weekly and monthly reports.
  • Participate in medium-scale projects from beginning to end and regularly scheduled team meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant field required; six years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience required, preferably in automotive manufacturing such as Body in White, Paint, or Assembly.
  • PLC experience.
  • Hands-on experience in offline simulations.
  • 3D CAD experience with tools such as Inventor, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX.
  • Experience with line balancing, time studies, line layout planning, Lean concepts, waste reduction, and parts presentation.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and process technology.
  • Knowledge of joining technologies such as MIG/MAG, spot and laser welding, and gluing is a plus.
