BIW Production Quality Engineer

Job Overview

Monitors the factory’s performance, manages and allocates manpower, and strengthens and develops the organization’s production and planning structure. Develops, implements, and improves complex manufacturing production processes and methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop best practices to improve production capacity, quality, and reliability.
• Manage continuous improvement processes to create a Lean Manufacturing environment.
• Ensure implementation and execution of problem-solving for quality issues produced within the body shop.
• Assess unusual circumstances and suggest variations in approaches due to incomplete or conflicting data.
• Initiate and support concepts and define actions to improve production quality and processes.
• Investigate problems, analyze root causes, and derive resolutions using the 8D Problem Solving Process.
• Develop operational strategies to achieve production and quality objectives.
• Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished products and process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
• Utilize system analysis of production methods, procedures, and process automation for continued improvement.
• Evaluate current production activities and drive improvements.
• Ensure highly technical equipment meets required specifications and quality standards.
• Implement cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining high quality standards.
• Develop planning standards, methods, and procedures.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to team members and less senior manufacturing engineers.
• Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or another relevant field required; six years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
• More than five years of relevant experience required, preferably with Body in White 3D-CAD experience such as Inventor, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX.
• Knowledge of quality sensors, destructive testing, geometric technologies, complex quality methods, manufacturing methods and procedures, and process technology.
• Strong data-processing skills and the ability to present complex technical information.
• Ability to influence team members at all organizational levels and communicate and negotiate effectively.
• Knowledge of value stream mapping and experience in dimensional accuracy are desired.
