Purpose and overall relevance for the organization

To be responsible for managing product life cycles from entry to exit, driving productivity of stock movements in relation to delivery receiving and transfers, implementing Heart of House and managing stockroom layouts and maintenance, executing store operations in line with the brand image, and providing feedback and coaching opportunities to subordinates and the store team.

Key responsibilities

  • Be aware of store targets and actively work to meet or exceed them using all available resources.
  • Use retail and commercial expertise to maximize sales opportunities by prioritizing merchandise flow to the sales floor.
  • Role-model stockroom operations, ensuring processes are followed while providing feedback and suggestions to drive productivity.
  • Promote accountability and transparency by ensuring teams follow policies and handle product with integrity.
  • Use BI Reports to prioritize top sellers and Black Hole to drive back-of-house productivity and push product to the sales floor quickly.
  • Complete deliveries quickly and accurately while adhering to stock protection procedures.
  • Record and manage all stock movement in and out of the store via IC processes or Omnichannel in a timely manner.
  • Work with the line manager to ensure adequate consumables are provided and highlight issues where required.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy by executing cycle counts and controlling adjustments with the line manager and store team.
  • Manage stock capacities proactively to keep the store aligned with optimum levels.
  • Own stockroom health and safety topics, complying with all policies and procedures.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and communicate suggestions to drive commercial success.
  • Guide and train the team on stockroom operations and manage performance through the Company Performance system (#MyBest), with HR and line manager support where required.
  • Collaborate productively and respectfully with all team members to meet or exceed store goals.
  • Support other team members when needed and pursue opportunities for development and improved performance.
  • Partner with the in-store trainer to ensure regular training and refreshers on Heart of Operations, the day in the life of a BOH Specialist, policies, and procedures.

Customers, Inventory Control Team, Merchandising Team, Logistics Team, peers, and supervisors.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Adapt communication style for internal and external consumers depending on the situation.
  • Adapt flexibly to the needs of multiple internal and external consumers.
  • Deal professionally with difficult situations.
  • Use retail and commercial expertise to drive store sales by prioritizing the consumer and brand.
  • Support the team by actively helping where required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized stockroom with thorough attention to detail.
  • Stockroom management or people management experience is mandatory.

Required education and experience

  • Matric certification.
  • Minimum five years' work experience in a sports or fashion customer- and commercial-focused retail environment, with advanced process knowledge, comprehensive stock management and logistics experience, and thorough retail industry understanding.
  • More than two years' experience as a BOH Specialist.
  • Intermediate numeracy and literacy and advanced verbal communication skills.
