Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization
The mission of the Assistant Manager, Inbound Customs is to ensure efficient and compliant international trade management by streamlining import and export processes and reducing overall lead times.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and control responsibility for HTS code classifications, CIQ pre-testing management, tariff information, internal and external trade contracts, and duty-free trade agreements.
- Collaborate with management to resolve complex trade issues and ensure compliance with legal entities and regulatory authorities.
- Drive continuous process improvements, proactively manage urgent or special situations, and work with cross-functional teams to deliver effective solutions.
- Stay updated on Customs policies and regulations, share key updates, and conduct training sessions to enhance compliance awareness and capability.
- Develop, maintain, and update relationships with China Customs authorities and government bureaus while researching and analyzing regulatory changes affecting import and export operations.
- Support the AEO annual audit and grade maintenance, including timely renewal of Customs IC cards and required certificates.
- Analyze and share evolving Customs policies to keep adidas inbound operations and related teams aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure Customs-related costs are reasonable and within budget.
- Apply company and departmental policies to resolve operational issues and ensure accurate tracking and timely recording of freight information.
- Produce reports and business updates using systems including Power BI, AFS, HUB Light, TCM, Ariba, Origo, SPM, NOVA, and Infor Nexus.
- Support inbound-related projects through coordination and user acceptance testing for system enhancements.
Key Relationships
Internal stakeholders include Supply Chain and Sourcing cross-functional teams, China Distribution Center, OmniChannel Fulfillment & Deployment, Product Supply, Sourcing, Finance, Tech, Global Product Supply, Global Logistics, Global Customs, Legal, and Brands. External stakeholders include logistics service providers, factories, system vendors, China Customs authorities, and Customs laboratories.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of inbound logistics and import and export Customs declarations.
- Experience in logistics process optimization and project management is a plus.
- Strong analytical and presentation skills, with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and BI tools.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, detail-oriented, resilient under stress, and committed to teamwork and integrity.
Requisite Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field.
- 4+ years of inbound logistics experience in FMCG or retail industries.
