Overview
You are on a mission: Drive Financial Excellence with Mercedes-Benz Services Malaysia. This role leads external collections and remarketing with a strong focus on legal oversight, including evaluating cases for litigation or repossession based on risk, cost, and recovery potential.
The position requires deep non-performing loan collections experience and the ability to counsel and manage vendors while ensuring legally sound decisions, regulatory compliance, fair customer treatment, accurate account closure and write-off processes, and maximized recoveries.
Tasks
- Implement and manage legal and late-stage collections processes and procedures in accordance with company policies.
- Monitor and quality-control debt collection performance and activities.
- Verify contact information and train and develop collectors to meet KPIs.
- Liaise with customers to minimize credit losses and maximize debt recovery.
- Handle escalations involving collections, restructuring, and rescheduling of overdue contracts, including weekend availability.
- Track broken payment plans and identify repeat failures to inform escalation decisions.
- Initiate litigation proceedings against hirers and guarantors.
- Assess bankruptcies and accounts more than 45 days past due with no payment for potential repossession or litigation.
- Liaise with solicitors, insurers, police, customs, and transport authorities for recovery purposes.
- Handle and support the end-to-end remarketing process for repossessed and returned vehicles.
- Liaise with auction houses and coordinate bids from dealers, buyers, and auctioneers.
- Monitor vendor commission eligibility based on payment behavior.
- Execute write-off contracts in accordance with company policy and report updates to management.
- Drive digitization, process automation, optimization, and system enhancements.
- Handle other ad hoc assignments as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification in banking, accounting, finance, business, economics, law, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in automotive finance.
- Strong legal knowledge and late-stage collections experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Good spoken and written English; Cantonese, Mandarin, and local dialects are advantageous.
- Knowledge of finance contract management ERP systems and hire purchase terms and processes.
- Strong experience managing legal firms, debt collection vendors, and repossession vendors.
- Proven success in legal recoveries and post-default recoveries, distressed or written-off portfolios, and recovery strategy development.
- Strong communication, decision-making, problem-solving, multitasking, and stress-management skills.
