We are looking for an Application Maintenance Engineer to join a long-term project supporting a mission-critical logistics application. The role focuses on application operations, stability, and maintenance in a high-availability production environment.
The ideal candidate has good C/C++ skills, very good Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) knowledge, and is willing to participate in on-call duties as part of a shared support rotation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support a production logistics application written in C/C++.
- Ensure stable, secure, and high-performance system operation.
- Administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
- Monitor applications and infrastructure, identify incidents, and resolve operational issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and support incident and problem management.
- Work with system services, networking, and shell scripting on Linux.
- Support Docker-based environments.
- Cooperate closely with development teams and other operational units.
- Maintain operating procedures, documentation, and runbooks.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure system availability.
- Support backup and restore processes for systems and databases.
German and English at B2 level are required.
Required Skills & Experience
- Good knowledge of C/C++.
- Very good knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Bash or shell scripting.
- Administration and operation of system services.
- Network administration.
- Experience operating production systems with limited downtime.
- Willingness to participate in on-call duty.
- Strong sense of ownership and operational responsibility.
- Good communication skills in an international environment.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with Docker.
- Understanding of network administration.
- Knowledge of German.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools, ideally Nagios.
- Experience with Oracle databases.
- Understanding of backup and restore processes for systems and databases.
- Experience in the logistics domain.
- Knowledge of ITIL-based operational processes.
- Previous experience in application support or operations roles.
- Basic Windows Server administration.
