Job Overview

The Enterprise Solution Architect is the technical authority for CodeCraft, the NAFTA shared engineering platform that provides application teams with reference architecture, common Java/Spring libraries, a managed dependency baseline, Gradle plugins, an API gateway, centralized configuration, a React/Next.js UI foundation, engineering standards, developer tooling, and an EKS-based cloud-native runtime with AI-enabled and agentic SDLC tooling.

The role owns CodeCraft's target architecture and standards, translates business objectives into implementable blueprints, and leads governance across platform repositories and consuming applications. The architect works across Mercedes-Benz USA, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, and other NAFTA entities, reconciling regulatory, data-residency, and delivery-model requirements.

A central part of the role is agentic AI: designing architecture, guardrails, and platform capabilities that enable autonomous and semi-autonomous AI agents to participate safely in software development and business workflows. This is a hands-on architecture role involving design reviews, architecture decision records, proofs of concept, and collaboration with engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

  • Create and maintain strategic enterprise roadmaps, target architectures, and application landscape blueprints aligned with business objectives.
  • Own the CodeCraft reference architecture across application, data, integration, cloud, security, and infrastructure domains.
  • Design multi-entity and multi-tenant solutions with shared platform capabilities, entity-level customization, isolation, and compliance boundaries.
  • Lead modernization and migration of legacy EAI and monolithic applications onto CodeCraft golden paths.
  • Design cloud-native and hybrid-cloud solutions using microservices, event-driven and service-oriented patterns, API-first design, and Kubernetes.
  • Produce and maintain architecture decision records, diagrams, and design documentation.
  • Define integration architecture and API standards, including versioning, contracts, and backward compatibility.
  • Design agentic AI architecture covering runtime topology, orchestration, tool and function calling, MCP servers, retrieval and context strategies, memory, evaluation, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints.

Governance & Standards

  • Lead architecture review boards, design reviews, exception handling, and technology standards development.
  • Own engineering standards for coding, branching, versioning, release, APIs, and security.
  • Define non-functional requirements for performance, resilience, scalability, observability, cost, and compliance.
  • Partner with Security and IAM architects to embed secure-by-design and least-privilege principles.
  • Establish governance for approved AI models and platforms, autonomy boundaries, approval gates, configuration change control, auditability, cost governance, prompt-injection protection, and data-exfiltration controls.

Technical Leadership & Innovation

  • Lead technical initiatives, evaluate emerging technologies, build proofs of concept, and drive adoption.
  • Advise and mentor engineering teams and architects.
  • Design and integrate AI/ML, Generative AI, and Agentic AI solutions using platforms such as Azure AI, OpenAI, AWS Bedrock/SageMaker, or Google Vertex AI.
  • Champion an AI-enabled SDLC involving autonomous coding agents, automated code review, test and documentation generation, and agent-driven remediation.
  • Define agent skills, playbooks, golden-path templates, success measures, and responsible-AI guardrails.

Stakeholder Management

  • Bridge business stakeholders, product owners, and engineering teams, communicating architecture and trade-offs to executive and technical audiences.
  • Maintain the enterprise architecture repository and application landscape data.
  • Represent the platform in architecture forums, vendor evaluations, and regional or global alignment discussions.
  • Build consensus across NAFTA entity architecture and engineering leadership.
  • Drive CodeCraft adoption, run enablement sessions, and act as an escalation point for architectural questions.
  • Operate within Agile, SAFe, and Scrum delivery models.

Success Measures — First 12 Months

  • Published and socialized platform target architecture and roadmap with an accepted ADR backlog.
  • Functioning architecture governance cadence with documented standards and exception tracking.
  • Measurable adoption of platform golden paths.
  • At least one cloud-native or Generative AI proof of concept progressing to production adoption.
  • Approved agentic AI blueprint and guardrails, with at least one measured use case.
  • Accurate application landscape, dependency, and lifecycle data.
  • CodeCraft adoption extended to at least one additional NAFTA entity.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field required.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating enterprise technology solutions, including 3+ years in enterprise technology architecture, platform architecture, enterprise solution architecture, or software architecture.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in cloud-native and hybrid-cloud architecture, containers, Kubernetes, microservices, APIs, event-driven patterns, and networking.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and GitOps-based delivery in multi-account cloud environments.
  • Experience maintaining shared platform assets consumed by multiple engineering teams.
  • Practical DevSecOps experience, including SAST/SCA, vulnerability management, secrets management, container hardening, and least-privilege identity.
  • Experience with observability, reliability engineering, SLOs, alerting, and cloud cost optimization.
  • Working knowledge of TOGAF, ArchiMate, LeanIX, or equivalent architecture frameworks and tools.
  • Experience applying AI/ML, Generative AI, and Agentic AI to engineering and operations.
  • Understanding of responsible AI, agentic AI risk, auditability, and AI-enabled SDLC practices.
  • Track record of leading technical initiatives, developing proofs of concept, evaluating technologies, and driving adoption.
  • Experience in Agile, SAFe, or Scrum environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • AWS, Azure, or GCP Professional Architect; CKA/CKAD; HashiCorp Terraform Associate; TOGAF; or equivalent certifications.
  • Hands-on experience with Java 21, Spring Boot, Gradle, TypeScript, Next.js, Python, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and Redis.
  • Experience with Checkmarx, Black Duck, SonarQube, Artifactory, Datadog, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience with agentic coding platforms, MCP, and orchestration frameworks.
  • Experience delivering shared platforms across multiple legal entities, business units, or regions.
  • Automotive, manufacturing, financial services, or other regulated enterprise experience.
