Role Overview
We are seeking a highly seasoned, authoritative IBM i Systems Engineer to own the architecture, security, performance, and high availability of our enterprise Power Systems environment. As a key technical leader, you will be responsible for complex migrations, strategic planning, and ensuring 99.999% uptime for critical business applications.
This role requires an independent problem-solver who takes full ownership of projects from design through execution. Candidates must have a minimum of 12 years of prior experience creating and delivering solutions tied to business growth, organizational development, and systems optimization.
Advanced English is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain complex LPAR configurations, PowerVM virtualization, and enterprise storage strategies.
- Design and manage high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including BCS, PowerHA, Mimix, and QuickEDD, to meet stringent RPO and RTO goals.
- Administer advanced IBM i security configurations, including exit point management, object-level auditing, and SOX/HIPAA compliance controls.
- Lead OS/400 upgrades, PTF management, and firmware updates on IBM Power8, Power9, and Power10 hardware using HMC.
- Conduct in-depth performance analysis using IBM Performance Tools and iDoctor, resolving complex contention and bottlenecks.
- Act as the highest-level technical escalation point for complex system failures.
- Use CL programming, RPGLE, and SQL to automate operational tasks and integrate with modern tooling.
- Lead modernization projects, including data center migrations, cloud integration with AWS and Azure, and SQL modernization.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Design, configure, and operationally support IBM iSeries infrastructure, including POWER8 through POWER10 hardware, storage, and ancillary devices.
- Design, plan, and implement IBM i system security and SOX/PCI compliance controls.
- Perform OS-level upgrades, IBM PTF group and cumulative maintenance, and other system maintenance activities.
- Implement, support, and operate IBM BRMS for backups, restores, and archiving.
- Plan, design, and implement iSeries partitions using shared system and hardware resources to balance performance, resources, and storage.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of IBM i high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Mimix, QuickEDD, and OMS/ODS.
- Design disaster recovery procedures, policies, and practices using best practices and high availability solutions.
- Maintain relationships with IBM Business Partners, IBM contacts, and iSeries solution vendors.
- Demonstrate knowledge of third-party applications and tools including absMessage, Fortra, ACOM, DBU, Hawkeye, Inform Decisions, iSecurity, Power Exchange, TAA Tools, and Control-M.
- Demonstrate knowledge of SDA, PDM, and other programming tools for application building and screen design.
- Facilitate communication and documentation for business projects, develop key milestones, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize work.
