Purpose of the position

To supervise, lead, inspire and support the utilities operations team by ensuring planned and preventative maintenance are executed across mechanical, electrical and instrumentation functions, while providing input on utilities projects in the Engineering department.

Qualifications and experience

  • National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ technical experience in a manufacturing plant, including at least 2 years at supervisory level.
  • Practical experience and strong knowledge of industrial utility systems, including ammonia plants, CO₂ plants, boilers, water treatment and reverse osmosis, compressed air, and effluent or wastewater systems.
  • Experience in an FMCG manufacturing environment is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Experience with plant maintenance systems such as Maximo or SAP is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
  • Understanding of TPM principles.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead and coordinate planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance activities across Utilities.
  • Manage maintenance planning, scheduling and reporting.
  • Provide technical support to Utilities Process Controllers to maximise equipment reliability, availability and plant efficiency.
  • Perform fault-finding and troubleshooting and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate contractors and support Utilities optimisation and improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards, including legislative requirements relating to machinery safety in Utilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve maintenance effectiveness.
  • Manage departmental resources, overtime and leave planning.
  • Lead and coach team members.
