Job Overview
Perform US state and local income and franchise compliance for the consolidated group. Provide support for tax audits, special projects, tax risk analysis, forecasts, other financial reporting requirements and federal tax compliance.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review state and local income tax and franchise tax returns for the consolidated US tax group, support the state and local tax process, perform tax analysis and research, and collaborate with management, internal departments, external consultants and other Mercedes tax departments.
- Assist with state and local income tax and franchise tax audits and dispute resolution, and respond to notices and correspondence from state tax authorities.
- Prepare and assist with state tax financial reporting, tax forecasts, operational planning, risk analysis, cash planning and quarterly state tax contingency reserve reporting in accordance with IFRS and internal controls.
- Perform federal tax compliance, including preparation and review of federal tax returns for the US consolidated group and assistance with international income tax compliance required for US tax filings.
- Assist with special projects, conduct ad hoc tax research, and monitor tax legislation and its impact on Mercedes-Benz.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance or Law.
- Master of Science in Taxation or LLM in Tax preferred.
- CPA license required.
- At least 5 years of total experience with a Big 4 or regional accounting firm and/or corporate tax department.
- Knowledge of US tax law and tax compliance processes, analytical and technology skills for tax research, and familiarity with accounting transactions and internal controls.
- Strong analytical, organizational, presentation, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in PC skills and Microsoft Office applications; Corptax knowledge is a plus.
