Job Overview

Support Canadian tax compliance, tax accounting and cross-border tax reporting activities for Mercedes-Benz North America Corporation and affiliated Canadian entities. Assist with income tax provisions under IAS 12, tax compliance filings, audit support and international tax reporting requirements while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external advisors.

Responsibilities

  • Canadian Corporate Income Tax Compliance (45%): Prepare Canadian corporate income tax returns, elections, supporting schedules, tax payments, refund claims and tax account reconciliations. Coordinate information gathering, maintain compliance calendars and monitor filing requirements.
  • Canadian Tax Accounting and Provisions (40%): Prepare quarterly and annual Canadian income tax provisions under IFRS and IAS 12, calculate current and deferred taxes, prepare effective tax rate analyses, support financial statement disclosures and complete provision-to-return reconciliations.
  • International Tax Reporting and Withholding Taxes (5%): Support US and Canadian withholding tax compliance, maintain FATCA and CRS documentation, review Forms W-8 records and assist with cross-border payment reporting.
  • US International Tax Compliance (5%): Support protective filings, Tax Residency Certificate requests, FBAR filings and related compliance requirements.
  • Tax Research and Business Support (5%): Research Canadian and US tax matters, prepare analyses and draft memoranda, monitor legislative developments and provide technical support for compliance, audits and special projects.

Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the US; visa sponsorship will be considered.
  • Minimum 5+ years of overall work experience.
  • 5+ years with a Big 4 or regional accounting firm and/or corporate tax department preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting for income taxes and corporate tax compliance.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance required.
  • MS in Taxation, Business or an LLM in Tax preferred.
  • CPA license required.
  • Working knowledge of US federal income tax concepts and tax compliance processes.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and collaborate with cross-functional teams and external advisors.
