Objective of job
The Program Management Compact & Mid-size Car Team is part of the department Program Management in the field of Product and Project Steering. As Strategic Project Lead (SPL) for locally produced carlines, Program Management leads strategic decision-making and alignment within China and with headquarters for product-related topics.
As Mercedes-Benz increases its localized production vehicle line-up in China, Program Management steers Mercedes-Benz Cars activities in China across Development, Operations and Sales. SPLs ensure alignment on market-specific product requirements and steer projects with cross-functional project teams.
Main tasks
- Lead cross-functional vehicle project management across Research & Development, Sales, Finance, Purchasing, Quality and Production Planning.
- Coordinate high-level management committees with Mercedes-Benz, BMBS and BBAC joint-venture partners.
- Track decisions and report on implementation progress.
- Prepare management presentations for decision-making.
- Control China vehicle projects based on agreed quality gates.
- Ensure pre-alignment of product-relevant China topics with Research & Development, Operations and Sales & Marketing.
- Participate in and represent Platform Management in other committees.
Qualifications
Education: University bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical or automotive engineering, technical-oriented business administration or a similar field. An additional MBA and certified PMP are preferred.
Experience: Minimum five years of work experience in the automotive industry and experience in a project management role are required. Experience with MB.EA-M projects or work experience in Sindelfingen is a strong advantage.
Specific knowledge: High motivation and flexibility, independent working ability, strong organization skills, a structured working approach, the ability to steer a carline project at any phase, and a drive for high-quality delivery under difficult circumstances. Proficiency in MS Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel, and experience creating high-level management summaries and presentations are required. Teamwork, intercultural competence and communication skills across hierarchy levels are mandatory. Fluent spoken and written English is required; German is preferred.
