Production Process Engineer – Body Shop (geometry area)

Mercedes-Benz Vans is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Body-in-White (BIW) Geometry/Dimension Engineer to join the team and contribute to the development of a new, sustainable, and integrated Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) production plant in Jawor. As Mercedes-Benz expands its battery-electric van production capacity, the role will help shape the future of automotive manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Manage the geometry and dimensional process in Body-in-White, Body Shop, and Welding Shop operations.
- Be accountable for parts geometry and dimensional quality.
- Analyze measurement results, identify causes of geometric mismatches, and propose and implement corrective actions.
- Create and develop measuring control plans and respond to early signals of declining geometric and qualitative characteristics.
- Set up and configure measuring equipment, including calibration.
- Manage and develop the strategy for BIW geometry operations to ensure products, processes, and procedures meet corporate standards and compliance regulations.
- Cooperate with internal customers including Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in an automotive manufacturing environment, focused on geometry or dimensional process management for automotive parts in a Welding Shop, with an OEM, Tier 1, or Tier 2 supplier.
- Extensive knowledge of Body-in-White or Welding Shop dimensional control using advanced online and offline measurement equipment.
- Experience with coordinate measuring machines, measuring arms, or laser-optical systems.
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD systems and GD&T standards.
- Experience analyzing measurement results, identifying geometric discrepancies, and solving problems.
- Excellent knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles and their application in modern automotive production.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, intercultural environment.
- Demonstrated analytical skills.
- Prior experience in an automotive manufacturing plant is preferred.
- Fluent English; German and Polish are advantageous.
- Willingness to travel to other Mercedes-Benz locations for training and knowledge sharing.
- Proficiency in problem-solving techniques and root-cause analysis.
- Experience with Statistical Process Control and data-analysis tools.
