Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. is hiring a Process Engineer, Assembly 2, to support shop operations and facilitate a safe, productive process in accordance with the Mercedes Production System (MPS).

Essential Functions

  • Develop systems to improve process capability.
  • Identify special process characteristics and required control limits.
  • Perform, maintain, and develop countermeasures for potential failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Develop TPM inspection content to assist in process control.
  • Manage continuous improvement projects involving model changes, new technologies, process modifications, and cost improvements.
  • Ensure product and process integrity through MPS implementation and daily or weekly process audits.
  • Develop processes that maintain safety, ergonomics, quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Perform process capability studies and audits to maintain product quality.
  • Investigate process and product problems and implement and verify effective countermeasures with cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure optimal equipment and process conditions.
  • Evaluate workstation layouts, prepare standard times, and validate process times.
  • Plan and prepare for product changes and their impact on processes, equipment, and tooling.
  • Participate in production trials and verify closure of concerns.
  • Assist with quality audit concerns, including GFP, CPA, and APA audits.
  • Generate equipment and tooling specifications.
  • Assist with training assembly team members, team leaders, and group leaders on process changes.
  • Evaluate alternative production processes and assess their viability.

Administration

  • Evaluate the impact of engineering changes on shop processes.
  • Perform error analysis and develop countermeasures.
  • Write rework and repair procedures.
  • Verify production readiness through SMP reviews.
  • Prepare formal reports communicating problem and project status.
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving meetings.
  • Analyze production statistics, including downtime, FTC, quality concerns, and TPM.

Safety

Perform safe work practices and participate positively and proactively in training and safety programs. Follow safety rules, procedures, regulations, standards, and laws, and report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries to management or the Safety Department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years of relevant professional experience in automotive engineering or equivalent engineering areas such as process, maintenance, design, or project management.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Very strong problem-solving skills in a cross-functional team environment.

Preferred skills: Excellent communication skills, ability to work well within a team environment, German language skills, and AutoCAD.
