Paint Shop Rework Technician

Job Overview

Represents a technical expert with depth of knowledge within a specialized area. Performs Paintless Dent Repairs using PDR techniques and various tools on small to midsize dent damage on vehicle exteriors to company standards.

Responsibilities

• File, grind, sand, and smooth filled or repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.
• Pound out small dents with a hammer, pick hammer, or punch.
• Identify the most appropriate option or solution to adjust or improve existing approaches.
• Plan work to be performed.
• Position dolly blocks against dented surfaces and beat opposite surfaces to remove dents using hammers, metal dollies, air dent pullers, slide hammer dent pullers, picks, and other tools.
• Complete and ensure availability of appropriate production-process documentation.
• Perform quality and visual inspections.
• Modify existing processes, methods, and approaches when required.
• Interpret or clarify technical information to aid understanding.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and direction to more junior team members.
• Participate in the Continuous Improvement Program and regularly scheduled team meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Required: 4+ years of relevant experience; or a relevant certificate plus 3 years of relevant experience; or a relevant associate degree plus 1 year of relevant experience.
• Preferred: 5+ years of relevant experience; or a relevant certificate plus 4 years of relevant experience; or a relevant associate degree plus 2 years of relevant experience.
• Able to perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of metal finishing techniques.
• Experience with sheet metal and automotive body repair and rework.
• Experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Spot welding experience is a plus.
• I-CAR training is a plus.
