Job Overview
The Maintenance Multi-Craft Technician maintains production equipment to ensure the daily production requirements at Mercedes-Benz Vans are obtained.
Responsibilities
- Perform repair work, including necessary disassembly and reassembly of production equipment.
- Perform equipment preventive maintenance tasks to ensure manufacturer-recommended specifications are maintained.
- Maintain repair and maintenance records.
- Size circuit conductors and circuit protection devices, run conduit, install electrical equipment, and wire and unwire equipment as needed.
- Use VOM and other test equipment to identify electrical problems.
- Identify and analyze electrical and mechanical errors and malfunctions involving production equipment, PLCs, 24V control circuits, 480V three-phase systems, 4-20mA circuits, VFDs, PC controllers, fieldbus and control technology, pumps, motors, bearings, and other complex mechanical components.
- Perform modernizations, extensions, and modifications according to electrical drawings and specifications. Adjust PLC programming and use PLCs to troubleshoot issues when necessary.
- Construct or design equipment independently using PLCs, bus systems, network technology, mechanical components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and cooling and lubrication systems.
- Perform daily equipment checks and monitor production equipment performance.
- Optimize resources and installations through process, parameter, hardware, and software changes, including cycle-time analysis.
- Interact with and support associates within assigned production areas.
- Procure operative materials, equipment, and service providers.
- Travel and/or overtime may be required.
- Perform other duties as required to support business needs.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of industrial AC/DC electricity from 24V to 480V, mechanical systems, hydraulics, and/or pneumatics required.
- Experience changing bearings and motors preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email, required.
- PLC and bus-system education or experience strongly preferred.
- Robotics experience, especially Kuka or Dürr, strongly preferred.
- Oven and paint-booth supply-air maintenance experience preferred.
- Pumping-system and conveyor-system maintenance experience preferred.
- Strong listening, speaking, and writing skills required.
- Siemens S7 PLC logic knowledge preferred.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Required: 4 or more years of relevant experience; or a relevant certificate plus 3 years of relevant experience; or a relevant associate degree plus 1 year of relevant experience.
- Preferred: 5 or more years of relevant experience; or a relevant certificate plus 4 years of relevant experience; or a relevant associate degree plus 2 years of relevant experience.
- Indirectly relevant experience includes working with automation equipment, mechanical repairs, or working toward a related degree or certification.
