Job Overview

Support Executive Management and lead Canadian tax compliance, tax accounting, tax controversy and cross-border tax reporting activities for Mercedes-Benz North America Corporation and affiliated Canadian entities. Support accounting for income taxes in accordance with IAS 12 for MBNAC, subsidiaries and Canadian entities.

Responsibilities

  • Canadian Corporate Income Tax Compliance: Manage Canadian corporate income tax compliance, including returns, tax elections, legislative changes, tax payments, refund claims and tax account reconciliations.
  • Canadian Tax Accounting and Provisions: Manage Canadian tax accounting and review quarterly and annual IFRS and IAS 12 tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, effective tax rate analyses, disclosures and provision-to-return analyses.
  • Tax Audits and Controversy Management: Lead Canadian tax audits and controversy matters, manage communications with the Canada Revenue Agency and coordinate responses to information requests and examinations.
  • Transfer Pricing: Manage US and Canadian transfer pricing compliance and documentation, intercompany transactions and responses to transfer pricing audits and inquiries.
  • International Tax Reporting and Withholding Taxes: Manage US and Canadian withholding tax obligations, treaty-based analyses, FATCA, CRS and IRS Forms W-8 documentation.
  • US International Tax Compliance: Manage protective filings, Tax Residency Certificate requests, FBAR filings and related international reporting obligations.
  • Advisory, Research and Business Support: Provide strategic tax advice, support transactions and restructuring initiatives, identify tax planning opportunities and assess legislative developments.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of overall work experience.
  • 10 or more years of experience with a Big 4 or regional accounting firm and/or corporate tax department preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting for income taxes and corporate tax compliance.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance required.
  • MS in Taxation or Business, or LLM in Tax preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
  • Knowledge of US tax law, IAS 12 and IFRS.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Corptax, Alteryx, Adobe and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills, with the ability to lead teams and work cross-functionally.
