Purpose of the Position
Under general supervision, this position supports and/or leads hot forming, new tool builds, engineering changes, body-in-white and assembly equipment changes, and tool improvements. The role provides input regarding the feasibility of tool, part, and equipment changes; validates tool, equipment, engineering change, and piece-price costs; and works with ramp-up and support teams on current production, project ramp-up, and future projects.
Essential Functions
- Review tool and equipment quality, part and assembly quality, and tool and assembly process capability, working with Quality and Einfuehrung to determine when tools are ready for series production.
- Track new tools and communicate with other departments as needed.
- Participate in and help prepare process review trials at the Anlauffabrik in Germany, tool supplier locations, and during home-line integration at suppliers and MBUSI.
- Prepare and present information for tool and product reviews and required reports.
- Organize internal and external meetings to clarify problems and report findings.
- Exchange information with Quality, Einfuehrung, Development Hub, suppliers, Purchasing, and other departments to ensure tool and equipment quality, capability, and timing requirements meet or exceed MBUSI requirements.
- Provide feedback to Purchasing regarding supplier obligations and tooling payments.
- Confirm tool costs and piece prices.
- Provide technical expertise to Purchasing on technical issues.
- Provide manufacturing requirements to development engineers.
- Document product improvements and work with development engineers through closure.
- Support efficiency improvement measures of the Series Planning Department.
- Follow all applicable safety, security, policy, regulatory, and legal requirements.
- Perform safe work practices, participate in safety training and programs, report unsafe acts and conditions, and work safely 100% of the time.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, another engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in an engineering function within a manufacturing setting, with strong emphasis on hot forming and project management.
Necessary skills and certifications:
- Flexibility to support MBUSI needs and demands.
- Knowledge of CAD systems, including Siemens NX and SMARAGD.
- Knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work weekends and/or holidays when necessary.
Preferred skills:
- Ability to clearly communicate technical information verbally and in writing in German and English.
- Experience with Mercedes-Benz product development and ramp-up phases.
- Experience leading problem-solving groups.
- Knowledge of ZEUS, Dialog, ACM, Engineering Client, and KT-Datenbank.
