Tasks

Mercedes-Benz is hiring an international student intern to support Assembly 2 Trim & Final Manufacturing Operations at its Tuscaloosa, Alabama manufacturing site.

Essential functions include:

  • Analyze production processes and manufacturing performance.
  • Investigate and support resolution of production-related challenges.
  • Assist with process optimization and continuous improvement projects.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and problem-solving activities.
  • Support workstation and ergonomic improvements.
  • Evaluate KPIs and production performance metrics.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles in daily operations.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Logistics, Maintenance, and Planning teams.
  • Participate in cross-functional engineering projects.
  • Gain exposure to shopfloor management and automotive assembly systems.

Other regular tasks include participating in daily production and shopfloor meetings, tracking KPIs, conducting process observations, preparing reports and presentations, and supporting corrective actions.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related area is required, along with the equivalent combination of education and experience where applicable.

Preferred skills include understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, root cause analysis, production KPIs, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word, communication, presentation, project management, and teamwork skills.

Preferred but not required experience includes Power BI or other data visualization tools, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, continuous improvement projects, student engineering projects, Formula SAE, robotics, manufacturing activities, and automotive systems.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in university or in a gap year between a bachelor's and master's degree.
  • Studying outside the United States; applications from students currently studying in the United States are not accepted.
  • At least three semesters of study in a relevant field.
  • Available for a minimum of six months.

Internship Details and Benefits

  • Preferred start date: March 2027.
  • Paid internship with an hourly rate of $18.
  • Visa costs covered.
