Job Summary
Ensures the safe, efficient, reliable operation of all Energy Center equipment and responds to all emergency conditions of the Utility Plant. The Energy Center Operator Technician (ECOT) is proficient in using troubleshooting tools, process knowledge, piping diagrams, electrical prints, vendor manuals, and operating procedures to quickly eliminate downtime. The ECOT is also an important member of emergency response protocol, including responding to fire alarms in all buildings, silencing alarms, and maintaining fire protection equipment per NFPA.
This position will be based on rotating 12-hour shifts, rotating between days and nights. Persons in this role will be expected to be part of the Hurricane Onsite Ride Out Team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate all energy, utility, and fire protection systems, including 7- and 10-bar air compressors, dryers, and associated valves.
- Operate weld water systems, including multiple pumps, tanks, and coolers.
- Operate cooling towers and associated pumps and motors.
- Operate chillers and associated pumps and motors.
- Operate gas-fired water boilers and associated equipment.
- Operate air supply units for the paint shop, including filtering systems, pumps, piping, and valves.
- Operate rooftop units for the body shop, assembly plant, and administration building.
- Perform varied and non-routine Utility Plant Systems troubleshooting.
- Conduct incident investigations using the “5 whys” method to eliminate issues.
- Start and stop equipment as required and maintain equipment logs.
- Perform emergency isolation of the site Fire Protection Loop.
- Perform NFPA-required run tests for fire water pumps and associated systems testing.
- Respond to and assist Plant Security with fire alarm events.
- Operate, monitor, and manage the Building Management System, a computer-based control system for Facilities equipment.
- Enter work orders in the CMMS system.
- Monitor and respond to the 24/7/365 Facilities Help Desk support line.
- Serve as a Hurricane Ride Out Team member, including onsite shelter-in-place support during a State of Emergency.
- Maintain shift logs of reported or investigated events and their disposition.
- Perform Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Modify existing processes, methods, and approaches as needed.
- Participate in regularly scheduled meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of experience in a facilities-related field.
- Able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of hot water boiler operation and the refrigeration cycle.
- Ability to read blueprints, P&ID drawings, and electrical schematics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel, for communication and reporting.
