Deputy Store Manager - Southgate Mall Johannesburg

Purpose & overall relevance for the organization

Ensures that overall sales and profitability goals for the store are met. Provides training to associates, assists the store manager in staff development and succession planning, oversees daily store operations, and ensures compliance with adidas retail policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Support the store manager by implementing and maintaining a staff structure that minimizes payroll expenses and increases productivity using sales ratio performance balance and monthly planning.
• Assist the store manager in evaluating employee performance, identifying talent and training needs, and managing employee relations matters.
• Handle documentation associated with applicants, new hires, and payroll.
• Use customer service, training, educational tools, and communication to develop staff in line with adidas retail goals.
• Maintain personnel files and ensure adherence to company systems, procedures, confidentiality requirements, legal statutes, and safety guidelines.
• Develop skills through daily interaction with store management and external training to support promotability.
• Ensure adherence to adidas visual presentation guidelines.
• Implement security procedures, including shrinkage control and safety inspections.
• Assist with merchandising, advertising, and promotional programs.
• Resolve customer complaints.
• Assist with inventory control by communicating product overages and shortages to the store manager.
• Assist in implementing and maintaining management systems for planning, organizing, controlling, and auditing store operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and communicate effectively with customers and employees.
• Ability to calculate discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, and related figures.
• Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and point-of-sale systems.
• Effective written and verbal English communication skills.
• Good judgment and decision-making skills.
• Ability to present to moderate-sized groups.
• Ability to attend work regularly and predictably.
• Knowledge of how to supervise others.

Key relationships

Consumers, peers, key retail support functions including Marketing Activations, Visual Merchandising, Operations, vendors, and support functions.

Education and experience

• Matric Certificate.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership role.
• 4+ years of retail experience.
