Tasks

Mercedes-Benz is hiring Specialists and Team Members at its Tuscaloosa County and Bibb County facilities, which manufacture luxury SUVs, electric vehicles, and high-performance lithium-ion batteries. Purpose of the Position: Under general supervision, this role designs, builds, and maintains scalable digital solutions that improve procurement transparency, supplier readiness, and operational decision-making across North America. The role transforms business requirements into robust data pipelines, automations, analytics, and BI tools aligned with MBUSI and MP Germany standards.

The role supports decisions affecting approximately $1 billion in PM/MLV spend and supplier readiness across more than 200 USMCA suppliers. Responsibilities include delivering accurate dashboards and automated reporting for contract effectiveness, supplier milestones, localization/RVC, cost initiatives, capacity KPIs, and performance indicators.

Essential Functions

  • Data Engineering & Architecture — 20%: Build and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines using SQL, Python, and Databricks; integrate internal systems and external sources; and document data lineage, schemas, and definitions.
  • Software & Automation Development — 15%: Develop automated workflows and services using Python, Power Automate, and PowerApps, with monitoring, logging, and alerting.
  • BI & Advanced Analytics — 15%: Develop datasets, semantic models, dashboards, and KPIs in Power BI covering supplier performance, contract effectiveness, AVOB, sourcing, localization/RVC, capacity readiness, and cost initiatives.
  • Data Governance & Quality — 10%: Apply standards for accuracy, access control, security, retention, and auditability; monitor data quality and resolve defects.
  • Project & Agile Delivery — 20%: Serve as a technical project manager in Agile/Scrum frameworks, manage backlogs and sprints, coordinate stakeholders, and deliver incremental digital solutions.
  • Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration — 10%: Translate requirements from Procurement, SQE, Capacity, Logistics, Finance, Legal, and global digitalization hubs.
  • Operations, Support, and Documentation — 5%: Maintain operational stability, respond to incidents, and keep technical and functional documentation current.
  • Safety, Compliance & Other Duties — 5%: Follow MBUSI safety rules, complete required training, and perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Metrics and KPIs

  • Maintain at least 98% data accuracy for critical datasets.
  • Achieve at least 99% refresh success for automated pipelines.
  • Deliver at least 90% of sprint commitments on time.
  • Maintain at least 99% uptime for key dashboards.
  • Maintain a mean time to recovery of no more than 24 hours for data incidents.
  • Document manual hours eliminated through automation.

Perform safe work practices, participate in safety training, report unsafe acts and conditions, and perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: At least three years of relevant professional experience in an automotive environment, complex information systems and end-user support, full lifecycle development, database design and administration, project management, cross-functional delivery, automation, reporting, and data solutions.

Necessary Skills and Certifications:

  • More than three years of experience in data and AI engineering and programming.
  • Python, SQL, Databricks, and Power Automate.
  • Power BI, PowerApps, and advanced Excel, including VBA/macros.
  • APIs, ETL/ELT, data modeling, and Git/version control.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML fundamentals and visualization best practices.
  • Experience in multicultural, cross-functional teams.
  • Agile/Scrum project management experience.
