Data Engineer

Join Primark’s Data Platform & Engineering team as a Data Engineer, helping to build and support the enterprise data platform on Databricks. You will develop and enhance data pipelines that power reporting, analytics, AI and data science while working with cross-functional teams to deliver trusted and scalable data products.

What you'll do

  • Data Engineering Delivery: Design, build and enhance scalable data pipelines and transformation processes using Databricks, PySpark, SQL and dbt Cloud.
  • Data Modelling & Integration: Develop and support ETL/ELT solutions, data models and reusable datasets integrating data from multiple enterprise systems.
  • Data Platform Operations: Monitor, maintain and optimise production data pipelines for reliability, performance and operational efficiency.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Implement data quality controls, testing, lineage and documentation practices.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Data Engineers, Analytics teams, Data Scientists and business stakeholders to deliver data solutions.
  • Platform Modernisation: Support migration from Teradata to Databricks and modernise legacy data assets, tooling and engineering practices.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Champion automation, emerging technologies and improvements to the data engineering lifecycle.

What you'll bring

  • Data Engineering Experience: 2–5 years developing and maintaining data pipelines using SQL, Python and modern data engineering practices in enterprise-scale environments.
  • Data Modelling & Transformation: Experience with dbt Cloud, dbt Core or similar transformation frameworks.
  • Cloud & Modern Data Platforms: Exposure to Databricks, Spark, Azure data services or other cloud-based analytics platforms, including lakehouse technologies.
  • Data Integration & Database Expertise: Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, relational databases and large-scale datasets.
  • Data Quality & Engineering Standards: Knowledge of data quality, testing, operational support, software development lifecycles and version control.
  • Problem Solving & Commercial Awareness: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an understanding of business processes and objectives.
  • Collaboration, Learning & Continuous Improvement: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and demonstrate commitment to learning and innovation.
