Job Overview
Manages the safety, productivity, training, morale, and security of a Production Group. Monitors production and meets established production and quality targets. Possesses strong expertise in multiple technical work areas. Directly responsible for Team Leaders and indirectly responsible for Team Members.
Responsibilities
- Acts as the technical and disciplinary lead of the group.
- Oversees, organizes, and coordinates all work content of the group.
- Motivates, supports, develops, and challenges team members to their optimal potential.
- Manages communication flow to the team and to management.
- Drives continuous improvement for production processes, efficiency, product quality, environment, and ergonomics.
- Identifies trouble areas and resolves issues.
- Administers company policies and procedures.
- Assumes ownership and accountability for personnel management, including evaluations and reviews, coaching, counselling, resource planning, and team building.
- Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Plans, controls, and approves vacation, employee shifts, qualifications, and schedules.
- Provides feedback to involved departments to improve overall plant performance.
- Prepares reports based on data and presents findings to management and others.
- Introduces measures for positive employee development and resolves complex employee issues.
- Resolves varied and non-routine issues. May order materials and spare parts.
- Facilitates and participates in regularly scheduled meetings.
Supervisor Responsibilities
- Multiple team leaders report to the Group Leader.
- Responsibility for typically 30–50 associates in an automotive facility.
- Project management and workshop involvement.
Qualifications
- High school diploma and 3+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field is desired.
- Internal employees: Successfully completed PV-45 or currently fulfilling the Group Leader position.
- Automotive industry experience is a plus.
- Body shop, welding, and supervisory experience are a plus.
- Highly flexible, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, computer, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Understands and applies root cause analysis.
- Experience with MIG, MAG, spot, and laser welding technologies is preferred.
